I think my legs have gotten over the shock of my shifting from heel strike to forefront strike run. The soreness of the top of right foot is milder than the left foot. Using the foot and ankle chat as a guide I gently massage my feet. Somehow the massage relieved the pain.
Today was the third time I ran six miles with forefoot strike. A few times I forgot and was back to old habit, but I immediately sensed the change. My breathing turned to short and shallow. I shifted back to forefoot strike. I think it would take a few more weeks to get me really comfortable.
On my way back I stopped at Saunder Outdoor Running Track. It's about 10 minutes walk to where I live. The track was empty. I decided to give it a try on running barefoot. It has been a long time since I ran barefoot. 40 or 41 years ago when I was at SERATA where I loved to run barefoot around grass track.
I removed my Saucony and put them next to empty hand-held bottle water and walked to starting point. I don't know hot to put my feeling into words. It was a relieved? Like my feet gave a longgggggggggggggggg sigh. Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh......Yes, that was exactly how I felt.
I started to jog and slowly built up the speed. It wasn't bad at all running barefoot on synthetic track. I finished one lap as I switched from heel strike to forefoot strike. When I finished a second lap, I knew I would be coming back in a couple of days. I completed 1 mile/4 laps with determination to put more effort to run barefoot this year.
