Leng Kay Wee
Call it global warming or any name that fits the description of the current temperature, I have three words for it. I love it. It was amazingly warm for mid winter and I had this t-shirt on all day outside.
I was a little overdressed when I left for the gym this morning. I had my red winter jacket on, scarf around my neck and wool hat.
I tried to ignore the urge to return to my apartment to dump my jacket when I saw my next door neigbour in her sandal and bermuda short and short sleeve t-shirt. This was the woman who wrapped herself up from head to toes like she was heading to North Pole in 50 degree.
""Ana, you'll be sweating before you get to the train station.""
""Will it be really warm later today?. I hate it when it get colds by noon.""
"Didn't you see the weather forecast? It's gonna be warm all week.""
And I'm glad I left the jacket, scarf and hat at home. It was truly beautiful day. I'm grateful.
A cute little girl with neat corn rows corrected me when I told her Langkawi is an island in Malaysia.
"No, it's Leng kay wee".
Speaking of Langkawi, here are some pictures I took during three days/two nights visit to a legend island in November, 2006. I know it's two months late........

Kuih loyang is an old Malay goodies, made of rice flour. The lady who made kekaras near Mahsuri's house.
I have no idea what we call this red berries like plant, but the mengkuang floor mats come from this plant on the right.
A stray cat jumped on my lap out side the hotel while we were waiting for our rental car.

I have heard & read so many different comments on the weather being unusually warm on the east coast of the USA. Amazing!
(scary if you think about how nature is behaving out of whack, don't you think?)
Lovely photos.
Next time I go to Msia. I would like to go to Langkawi too!
Kisses.

Happy New Year! What is the photo underneath the kitty? It looks like a giant cauldron with water running out of it like a fountain... The photo of the goodies make me drool. I'm a sucker for sweets and pastries of all kinds. My favorites include the Filipino treats made with coconut milk, rice flour, and young coconut that are fried in little balls, then rolled in or drizzled with coconut/caramel syrup, and strung three to a skewer. Crispy and chewy!

Been wrecking my brain for the name of the plant....Then I remembered 'tikar mengkuang'! By simple logic, the plant must be called 'pokok mengkuang'???

Nina,
You got it-pokok mengkuang. The process of making the mengkuang mat is long and tedious.
Jackie,
Happy new year to you too. yes it is. I had my picture taken next to it with my head barely touched a lower part of the pot's rim.
The goodies was delicous and crunchy. Like you I have a sweet tooth too. What do you call a Filipino treats that sweet and chewy?

Nina,
Pokok nipah grows in a swamp. The red berries tree looked similar to beetle nut (pokok pinang), but I was stump because nobody seemed to know what it was.
